New Site Look, Courses, Workouts and the Revolution is Coming!

new New Site Look, Courses, Workouts and the Revolution is Coming! It’s been over 6 months since we (myself and Scott) combined blogs and setup this new site to reach even more people. Along the way we have been experimenting with new layouts, offerings and getting ongoing community feedback. We have been tweaking things here and there and had bigger plans on what we wanted to have available for people. Now we have what we think is a permanent look for the site that includes all the resources we think people need. So if you haven’t been to the site lately (reading most of our articles via email or RSS), we encourage you to come back and see the new features and resources. Below is a highlight of the big things we have done:

The Name:

Ok….we had our own blogs, then combined to try and be a super site of “Life Spotlight”…then along the way realized that was too much for us, and went back to our roots as “Fitness Spotlight” (for good). No worries about worrying about old links or RSS feeds, as we have done all the programming to make sure everything transitions without you needing to do anything.

The Layout:

  • Front page condensed for easy viewing of all latest articles
  • Easy navigation with all main choices on menu bar
  • Added enhanced footer for more choices on content viewing
  • other behind the scenes boring programming stuff about enabled cache and combining databases…..all to increase the speed functionality of the site for the reader

The Content

  • NEW “How to” 101 courses in the Spotlight University for all things about Fat Loss, Nutrition and Fitness. These are our new “tell all” resource taking all the best of past articles and putting into one easy place to view, re-read and point others to (instead of trying to always explain yourself about why you eat or workout a certain way….which we know can be an endless battle)
  • A fun new feature in the enhanced footer (bottom of page) of  “5 random posts”. Every time you go to a new page/post (or refresh it) the list will continually change….pulling 5 random posts from our entire database of 100+ articles. That way you can also re-read some of the past classics and remind yourself of things to use in your healthy lifestyle.
  • Additional pages for more resources on workouts and reading (online and offline)
  • Even had some fun with our “404″ error page

The Posts

  • You can now subscribe to individual post’s comment feeds to keep up to date on conversations that are going on about that topic only (check box at bottom by comments)
  • Added a “print” button feature for each post at bottom for easy printing of information you want to keep handy

Next Up: The Bodyweight Challenge

Our next project is going to be getting up the BodyFitBurn (bodyweight) Workouts. These are going to be quick, scalable and “randomized” bodyweight workouts that will be sent to you (email or RSS) 3x a week…for FREE! So now when people ask us about what kind of workouts to start off with (especially if they are bodyweight based) we have the perfect answer! We expect the programming to be completed very soon, but you can sign up today (just clicking on link above) and will start getting the workouts once they are up and running!

Coming Soon: the “Revolution”

Lastly…our main goal has always been to get the info out there that people need and combat the level of mainstream “mis-information” that is out there. Now we are taking our mission to a new level and will be helping to promote that “Revolution” with YOU the readers and other bloggers out there. Working together we can all help to spread the message of health and wellness and make a big difference! More on that to come….but if you are a blogger in the health and fitness field (or want to promote health and fitness on whatever site/blog you have) then be sure to join up with the Blogger Revolution Community. Working together we can accomplish many thing!

Like the new look. Look forward to seeing the body weight challenge workouts. In my experience, this sort of thing is tougher than many free weight workouts!

Good job guys – always good to see structure being given as much attention as content – looking forward to spending time on the new site.

Awesome stuff guys! I am looking forward to everything you have planned. Just a heads up, on the Bodyweight Challenge sign up page both the RSS and email sign up links say “RSS”. The email link should obviously read “email”. Now off to do some older post reviewing!!!

PSS: One of the two ways to link to the sign up is correct. The other way (via the post link) is the incorrect one.

Chris – Thanks, keep up the great work on your site as well!

Greg – BW exercises certainly can be challenging…especially when you factor in different ways to increase the resistance….it should be fun!

Methuselah – being an anal retentive creative person (Scott can attest to that, Ha)…..I always like things to look pretty but also have function….also the zen side of me says “keep it simple”. Hoping the new look has that balance.

Sabio – Yes I agree it was….and I remember someone’s feedback on day 1 when we did the bigger site long ago as being “way too complicated”…..we saw the “light” and made it simple…yet informative geared for whether a person is new here or comes more often. Also would like the focus to be more community driven with comments in old/new posts as well as the forum……as without our community we would be nowhere! Your feedback is always welcome!

Jay – KISS’n like a highschool student on prom night…..

Rodney – That one slipped by me…fixin as we speak. Thanks. As for the “incorrect link”….I’m not sure which one you are referring to as they all seem to work on my end.
