Fish Oil’s Anti-Inflammatory Properties

omega3 Fish Oils Anti Inflammatory Properties

From Science Daily comes this article titled Fish Oil May Be Good Supplemental Treatment For Lupus, Study Suggests. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder causing inflammation throughout the body. Omega-3 fatty acids are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, which is why many of us that workout intensely take pretty big doses of fish and cod liver oils.

At the end of the study, participants who had been taking omega-3 fish oil showed significant improvement in all areas of measurement, including improved blood vessel function and a reduction in cell damaging molecules-resulting in potential cardiovascular benefits. There was also a significant improvement in a number of the symptoms of active lupus.

I have yet to see any detriment to increasing the level of omega-3s in the diet, both from fish (and to a lesser degree, grass-fed meats) and from high-quality fish oils like Carlson’s. And for those of us without lupus or other chronic diseases, there are numerous other benefits of omega-3 supplementation. Interesting stuff.
